In today’s society there is so much focus on outer beauty. New and improved age defying makeup, better tasting diet shakes, healthier hair dyes and a plethora of other beauty products can be found on the shelves of most stores. The medical field has pitched in with various types of cosmetic surgeries to “enhance your beauty”. It seems the world is obsessed with being thinner, firmer, younger looking and more physically attractive.

In this quest to become more physically attractive, the most important part of us is sometimes forgotten. INNER beauty. To say that someone has inner beauty is not just a backhanded complement that we can give to those who are not physically attractive. Most of us have heard the old “no, he/she may not be cute but they are beautiful inside”. Somewhere along the way people have forgotten how important inner beauty is.

There are ways to enhance your inner beauty. The journey begins by taking time to be introspective and do some soul searching. Are you too angry? Do others think you are bitter? Do you have difficulty getting along with others? These are just a few of the questions that you may want to ask yourself. If the answer to any of them is “yes”, you might want to work on enhancing your inner beauty.

First you must live by the rule: I can not control others or situations but I can control how I react to them. If your spouse does something to make you angry it is easy to lash out and tell them off. Of course, other than a brief moment of feeling better, that approach does little good. Had you kept your temper in check, thought about the situation and took a moment to cool down before responding, there would be less tension between you and less stress on yourself.

Search for your specific key to peace. You might find this by praying, meditating, singing, dancing or even yoga. There is generally one thing that brings us calm and soothes our soul. Make use of it often! When you are calmer inside it is much easier to get through the daily struggles.

We all have character flaws or things about our personalities that we don’t really like. You are the only one who can change it. Work harder to overcome your faults and be a better person, one that you will be proud of.

Stop focusing so much on the outer beauty. It fades with time. But inner beauty is a real treasure.
