How to clean your hair
I have noticed that a lot of people, use to much shampoo. This leaves your hair with a dull build up, but it also collects and dries to your scalp. To properly wash your hair, use just enough shampoo to build a good lather. Massage into your scalp for a few minutes. Dirt, grease and product buildup tends to settle on your scalp. Products like hairspray, gels and leave in conditioners.
Secondly, work the lather down to the ends of your hair. The healthiest part of your hair is the new growth closer to the head. The ends of your hair is the most damaged, be gentle with your hair. Hair is also at its weakest when wet. Making it easier to break, causing split ends and the frizzes. The next step I take when washing my hip length hair is gently squeeze the extra soap from my hair. This makes it easier to rinse. Rinsing is a very important part of shampooing your hair. If not rinsed completely you will have the same effect as if you used to much shampoo. So you must rinse, rinse and rerinse.
Of course the next step to assure that your hair is fresh and soft, apply conditioner. Start at the ends where the hair is most likely to break. Leave in for a few minutes and rinse, rinse, and refines.
It is not necessary to wash hair everyday. Every other day works for me.
How to get shiny hair
Do you ever wonder how the models on television get that incredible shine in their hair? Do you want to have shiny hair, too?
Unfortunately the sad truth is that most of those models get their shine from creative photography. When the model turns her head quickly, magnificent hair flying by, it looks shiny when replayed in slow motion.
However you can add extra shine to your hair. This is what you do.
First make sure your hair is as healthy as possible. Hair is not going to look shiny and strong if it’s broken. You can easily damage your hair with the use of hot styling products like hair dryers and curling irons. You can also do damage by using harsh chemicals to color, curl or straighten your hair. If your hair is damaged, see what you can do about making repairs. Of course the best fix for this is to cut out the damaged part and start over with healthy hair. That’s not always possible. If you need to rebuild damaged hair, there are several products on the market. Find a deep conditioner that will add moisture to your dry, broken hair. You may have to try a few different products. Keep in mind that often in hair care, the more expensive products are the more effective products.
Many people condition hair with mayonnaise or eggs. These treatments are best for hair that is not already damaged. They can be great for adding softness and shine to otherwise healthy hair.
Aside from fixing your already damaged hair, you can also take steps to prevent more damage. Avoid brushing hair when it’s wet. You have to be very gentle with wet hair because it can be easily broken. Hair dryers and other heat styling products are not good for your hair, and you should avoid them if possible. If you must use these products, use the lowest level of heat necessary.
Trim the ends of your hair every month or so to keep from having split ends and excessive breakage.
After you shampoo and condition your hair, give it a rinse with cold water. This will seal the cuticle and really allow your hair to shine.
There are products on the market that are specifically made to help give a healthy shine to your hair. Some shampoos are formulated for extra shine. There are also spray-on products promising to add shine. Try several products to see which work best for your hair. Again, keep in mind that the most expensive products will also be the most effective.
Try these tips for healthy, shiny hair. Your hair will thank you!
How to remove hair tangles
Hair tangles can break hair and damage it thus ruining your chances of growing your hair or promoting healthy hair. However, if tangles are prevented and removed properly, then it is much less likely for the hair to break and cause split ends or come out.
Detangling Spray/Cream/Gels – These are a great way to remove tangles easily, they help to make the hair easier to comb and detangling, a little bit is required otherwise the hair can become greasy, use a dollop of the product onto the hair. To apply the product, rub your finger through the length of the hair this will make the knots and tangles easier to remove.
Wide Comb – Using a wide comb brush through your hair after applying the product, this should be done in a special way. Separate the hair into sections using the wide comb so you can detangle a bit at a time, this will speed up the process and it gentle to your hair. Clip the other sections away from the hair you are combing. Start with the bottom of the hair, use the wide comb and start combing through the hair slowly working your way to the top of the hair, this will remove the knots and tangles. If you start at the top the tangles will clump in the middle or towards the bottom because you are getting the tangled hair and putting them together, this will lead to hair breakage and the hair will fall off especially if it tangles extremely badly. When you’ve done this clip it up and start on another piece until you’ve de-tangled your whole hair.
Keep them at bay – If your hair is always getting tangled, put it into buns, this will protect your hair and also make sure that you do not get tangles all the time. Furthermore, before washing hair comb the hair to keep them at bay. During washing do not scrub at the hair in all directions when conditioning but in a downwards direction to keep the tangles at bay, here it is best to use a wide comb and start from the bottom to the top combing out the hair and making sure there will be less tangles. When drying the hair, put it into a bun, this will not create tangles and will smoothen the hair.
Removing hair tangles will be much easier with the above steps, make sure to prevent the tangles from occurring as much as possible though!
Hair care: Treatments for damaged hair
Everyone would like to have shiny, smooth, gorgeous hair, like hair shown in commercials. When you have frizzy, damaged, lifeless hair instead though, you have some serious work to do.
Trims
Try sliding your hands through your hair, starting at the scalp and ending at the tips. If you observe a difference in texture, or if you feel something different at the ends, you are definitely due for a trim. It is wise to arrange for monthly trimmings of damaged areas with split ends.
Avoid heat
Do not use a blow- dryer, hot comb or hot rollers in your hair. The rollers and the hot combs do a lot of damage, because as the heat is applied, they stretch your hair. Already damaged hair will be even further damaged, as a result. If you absolutely have to use a blow-dryer ( like in winter for example, when you cannot let your hair dry alone), then always remember to keep the heat on the lowest setting. Also, always avoid extensive sun exposure.
Choose the right shampoo
Many shampoos consist of cleaning agents that can further damage your hair. It is important to choose acidic shampoos with a pH between 4.5 and 6.7. When washing your hair, try to massage gently. Avoid washing your hair every day, three times a week is perfectly okay. Washing hair daily will deplete hair from natural oils. Pay attention to the ingredients mentioned in the shampoos and conditioners. Choose products that contain little or no alcohol. If your shampoo and conditioner are extremely fragrant, it is quite possible that they contain plenty of alcohol. You can also make your own natural shampoo, by mixing chamomile flowers, comfrey root, elder flowers and nettle with boiling water. Let stand for 30 minutes and then add 1/4 cup of cider vinegar. Using that shampoo on a regular basis, will help your damaged hair become shiny and soft.
Balanced diet
A diet rich in vitamins and minerals can help your body grow healthier and stronger hair. Prefer fish and nuts, green vegetables and beans.
It is advisable to use semi- permanent hair colors in damaged hair, which can coat the hair strands and make them appear lustrous. They do not contain ammonia, therefore are not harmful to the hair.
Coconut to the rescue
Mix well a cup of coconut milk and two tablespoons of gram flour. Massage it gently for about 5 minutes into your hair and scalp. Leave it on for 10 minutes before rinsing. Use this once a week.
Intensive moisturizer
Add a teaspoon of honey into three cups of warm water and massage through your hair after washing them. Do not rinse, let it stay in your hair all night long. Use this twice a week.
